Objective
Jewel Fine Foods required a facility that allowed for preparation, cooking, packaging, storing and distribution. The brief from Hutchinson Builders was to manufacture and install 20,000m2 insulated panel, and more than 100 doors and windows within a short time frame of six weeks to enable Jewel Fine Foods to fulfil new customer supply agreements.
Challenges
The challenge for ASKIN Performance Panels was installing a large amount of panel within a limited timeframe, combined with working around other trades while still meeting the expected deadline. Furthermore, the new facility was still being designed after construction had commenced. Midway during construction further expansion to meet larger capacity was required.
Solutions
To overcome the challenges presented, the construction program was crucial. Clear communication was required from all stakeholders to keep up with variation to design and to ensure progress was continually being made. The key elements for overcoming the challenges included:
- Weekly meetings with all stakeholders.
- Reliable construction crew of 18 plus men.
- Understanding of other trades access and services requirements.
- Scheduling delivery of enough insulated panel onsite to maintain installation consistency whilst still allowing free movement of site and access.
Results
The result was more than 100 doors and 20,000m2 of EPS-FR ASKIN Panel supplied, installed and built to meet NCC/BCA Group 1 and in compliance with IPCA Code of Practice, while being delivered by the due date. In addition to Jewel Fine Foods winning the 2016 Telstra Australian Medium Business Award, they now have a brand-new food processing facility that allows them to continue cooking fine foods delivered to supermarkets around Australia.
