Soaring at a height of 451.9 metres into the atmosphere, with total build up area of 395,000 sq.m, the Petronas Twin Towers have redefined forever the skyline of Kuala Lumpur. Built on the former Selangor Race Track, the 88 storeys twin towers are joint “at the waist” by a two level, 58.4metres long skybridge, at the height of 170m from ground level, itself a feat of engineering excellence designed to withstand typhoon strength winds. The constructionof the superstructure commenced in 1994 after rigorous tests and simulations of wnd and structrural loads on the design, and was completed in 2 years. New levels were completed at every 12 days. At the height of constructuon, it was reduced to every fourdays, thanks in part to almost 4,000 tonnes of Lysaght Bondek Structural Steel decking, integral to the composite floor slaps in both towers and to the topping out ceremony just two years into the construcion.
