CONSTRUCTION ENTERPRISES NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NEW TRENDS TO TRANSFORM

  • In 2019, the construction industry did not see any breakthrough. Given the sluggish real estate market, many projects have stalled, leading to a one-digit growth of the industry. For example, while HBC achieved an average growth of 30% in the previous years, the 2019 figure was only about 10%.

Following the forecast in 2020, the construction industry is not very prosperous because the real estate market in localities such as Phu Quoc, Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City are all weak. Therefore, we set a growth rate of only 10% compared to 2019. With the above-mentioned growth, in addition to the housing sector, we will focus on developing 3 additional markets including industrial construction, transport infrastructure construction and construction in foreign markets.

In each industry, the company has prepared a development and implementation roadmap. In the field of transport infrastructure, by the end of 2019, Hoa Binh successfully implemented mergers and acquisitions 479 Joint Stock Company – a well-known infrastructure and irrigation company in the Central region, adding to the general contractor’s capacity as well as increasing the efficiency of Hoa Binh in the field of infrastructure construction, as well as reducing the pressure on the declining market share of civil construction. In the field of industry, this year the company focused on promoting with the inheritance of experience from industrial projects already implemented and expanded to new customers. Initially there was a positive, interesting thing that the partner who worked with Hoa Binh in the role of construction contractor, now they are the investor assigned to Hoa Binh.

  • As far as the world’s most modern construction trend that is to use printers to build houses, use recycled materials or build prefabricated houses. However, these trends are difficult to apply on a large scale in Vietnam. Specifically, using printers to build houses can make up to only 2-3 floors and used only as low-income houses. The trend of using recycled materials is not used for high-rise buildings either. For prefabricated houses with the advantage of labor reduction, Vietnam’s labor cost is still cheap, so the local construction cost is still more economical.

Even so, HBC still study these trends carefully and are cooperating with Panasonic to build a prefabricated toilet for the Ascent Lakeside project in District 7. Thanks to this installation, instead of tiling, installing electricity and water systems, and perforating walls, we now use the finished panels available in the factory and put into construction.

  • Apart from the above trends, HBC have self-researched a concrete solution in combination with beam removal floors for VinGroup’s housing projects that are all made of reinforced concrete without bricks and plaster walls. Although this technology requires precise construction techniques because of difficult-to-rectify errors, it has the advantage of not having a corner of the house and losing column area, thus increasing the area used for the project and saving construction time. This solution is currently implemented by many other contractors.

In addition, we have oriented to cooperate with foreign manufacturers to produce high-end equipment for projects.

  • We are applying many modern construction trends in the world such as construction management software, business management and green building. For construction management software, Hoa Binh is applying ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) enterprise management software, integrated with project management software to connect with each other. At the same time, Hoa Binh is building a management system towards automation of intellectual labor. That means building big data and digitizing management information stored in the system, when it needs to be exported promptly or when you want to choose automatically by yourself. For example, where to buy a suitable device, where to find a reasonable supplier…are all proposed by the system.

With green technology, we have gained experience in doing a number of projects in accordance with the US’ LEED green standards and Lotus of Vietnam. HBC has also set up a green council to keep pace with the world’s current trend, to develop standards for the company to apply. Because the green standard has 17 different categories, we are supposed to have experts in each field to apply it. One of the green criteria that we aim for this year is Zero Energy because this is the most prominent standard today. Besides, safety is also a criteria need focusing on green building. Up to now, Hoa Binh has reached 150 million hours of accident-free labor.

In my opinion, the materials in the future must be light, environmentally friendly, easy-to-use and cost-saving. For example, in industrial construction, structural steel materials must be light, durable, non-oxidizing to ensure the durability of the building.
